Just before you jump out your skin today Sunday 7th September 2025, remember the UK Government is testing the National Alert system. A test only there is no need to worry or be concerned.
All mobile phones in the UK will vibrate and make a rather noisy siren for 10 seconds at 3pm this afternoon, even if set to silent.
The alerts are intended for situations in which there is an imminent danger to life, such as extreme weather events or during a terror attack.
Pat McFadden, the new work and pensions secretary, said the test is “to make sure the system works well when we need it most”.
It is just the second time the system has been tested nationwide, and comes more than two years after the first revealed a number of technical issues including some not receiving the alert and others getting it early or late.
