Local businesses across the area are beginning to feel the impact of the latest business rates changes coming into effect this year. Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve been approached by several Blantyre businesses shocked at thier steep increases.
For some busineses, rising property valuations and reduced reliefs mean higher costs at a time when many are already managing tight margins.
We’re keen to hear directly from local shop owners, cafés, trades, offices, and independent businesses about what this means in real terms. Has your bill gone up? Are you absorbing the cost, passing it on, or having to rethink staffing, pricing, or opening hours?
We’re also interested to know if any local businesses are challenging their new rateable value or formally appealing decisions with the Valuation Office Agency or local authority.
