The Blantyreferme roadworks are advancing with progress on the new roundabout at Blantyre Farm Road and Calder Road. Although the road to Newton remains closed, contractors have finished significant earthworks and kerbing, while drainage and landscaping are in progress. Completion is expected in two months, aiming for a June 2025 opening.
Residents are outraged over plans for a 115,000 solar panel farm near Blantyre, threatening local history, wildlife, and landscape aesthetics. Despite a Scottish Government screening opinion downplaying impacts, opposition is strong. Blantyre Community Council will discuss the project, with an online event scheduled for public engagement.
The High Blantyre refuse centre will remain open during the Easter holiday, operating as usual. Its hours are Monday to Friday from 9 am to 8 pm, Saturday from 9 am to 7 pm, and Sunday from 9 am to 6 pm.
