Margaret Ferrier (SNP) Elected

The official results are now in for OUR area and it’s congratulations this morning to the Scottish National Party’s, Margaret Ferrier!

Margaret, the most popular choice of local voters is now elected as the new MP for Rutherglen & Hamilton West, decisively seeing off other party candidates. Results are:

  • Votes: 23,775
  • Vote share %: 44.2
  • Vote share change: +7.2
  • Turnout: 66%

She’s no stranger to politics for if you recall, Margaret was the MP for this constituency following the 2015 general election, until she narrowly lost her seat to Ged Killen of the Labour Party at the 2017 general election.

In April 2017, she helped to ensure that Broadband Internet access to the Newton Farm area of Cambuslang was upgraded. In Blantyre and Burnbank she campaigned tirelessly against a proposed incinerator.

Congratulations are offered today, not just to Margaret, but also to Blantyre SNP and indeed all organisations, branches and individuals who campaigned for this victory.

An Ipsos Mori exit poll suggests the SNP will make further gains throughout the rest of the Scottish results.
