New Spa Plans for Crossbasket Nursery Site

Following the recent closure of Crossbasket Nursery in High Blantyre, plans have now been submitted by Crossbasket to convert the existing unused children’s nursery to form their new spa facility.

Documents have now been lodged with South Lanarkshire Council planning departing requesting their consideration for internal alterations of the existing nursery building layout.

Plans include forming 6no. treatment rooms; changing rooms; wet & dry experience facilities; waiting area; including alterations to existing internal drainage layout and associated facilities.  Proposed new doubled louvred doors would be added to the North West building elevation to allow access to existing plantroom.

A new opening would be formed in North West stone wall to form new access path to connect into existing footpaths.

The plans submitted for the commercial venture are considerably downsized from the first spa proposals a few years ago, with small heat rooms and notably no swimming or plunge pools.

Crossbasket Nursery announced back in July that it would be closing in Autumn 25, which saw parents and guardians scramble to quickly make other arrangements for their children.

A spokesperson for Crossbasket Castle said: “Development of the eco lodges and spa had already commenced alongside the River Calder, adjacent to the new hotel. Following the closure and handover of the former nursery building, a review of the estate layout was undertaken to ensure the best use of available space. As part of this, the spa is now planned for the estate’s entrance, allowing the existing building to be repurposed.”

A formal announcement from Crossbasket is sought. A planning decision on the spa has yet to be made.
