The first of ‘Social Bites’ small pre assembled houses arrived site at their new village site at Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire this week!
These houses are designed and funded to assist up to 15 people affected by homelessness with a safe and secure, warm place to call home and break the cycle of homelessness.
On Wednesday, the first five homes landed at Harriet Gardens, the newest Social Bite Village, run in partnership with South Lanarkshire Council. It was a milestone moment in the journey to bring more high quality, supported alternatives to temporary accommodation to Scotland and beyond.
The Social Bite Village will form part of South Lanarkshire Council’s ambition to develop a wider range of options for people experiencing homelessness. Replicating the existing model of Social Bite’s Village in Edinburgh, it will provide a beautiful living environment and intensive onsite support.
The Nest Houses travelled down in convoy from the Ecosystems Factory in Invergordon, over the Kessock Bridge, to Rutherglen. Their bright orange Scottish timber cladding brought some cheer to an otherwise grey day ![]()
Having only broken ground in September, Social Bite were pleased to already be moving to the next stage of creating Harriet Gardens. In the coming weeks, the remaining houses and community hub building will arrive as the project progresses towards an opening date in early 2026.
