SLLC Community & School Halls Consultation

South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture has initiated a public consultation to gather feedback on indoor community and school spaces and a new pricing structure to enhance financial sustainability. After withdrawing from 42 halls recently, SLLC invites community input to shape future hall usage. The survey closes on October 26, 2025.

Library Opening Hours

Blantyre’s new library, located in the Blantyre Sports Centre reception, is open daily from 8am to 8pm on weekdays and 8am to 5pm on weekends. It offers book lending, photocopying, and printing services. Staff are available for assistance during specific hours on weekdays. Photocopying is accessible all day.

Blantyre Leisure Centre re-opens

Blantyre Swimming Pool has reopened on a reduced timetable, while the gym remains closed for upgrades. The leisure centre will resume some services from September 29, 2025, but will close the pool again on November 3 for further improvements. Updates will be provided regarding the ongoing transformation project.

Blantyre Library Hub Opens

The Blantyre Library Hub has officially opened at the Blantyre Leisure Centre as of September 29th. The new location features a vibrant space for visitors to explore books and enjoy art. The team is available to assist with inquiries, expressing gratitude for public patience during the transition.

Blantyre Library Closure

The Blantyre Library on Glasgow Road has permanently closed as part of South Lanarkshire Council’s funding cuts. A new, smaller book lending space will open in Blantyre Sports Centre, offering limited services. Community groups have criticized the council’s decision, highlighting the negative impact on local residents. The sports centre is upgrading, impacting facilities.

Blantyre Library Closure

Blantyre Library will close on 30th August 2025, as the council prepares to relocate to a newly refurbished library in Blantyre Leisure Centre, expected to open in September 2025. The new facility will be smaller and lacks the previous event space. Current book loans can be returned to any South Lanarkshire library.
