S1 Pupils Shine at Recent Netball Tournament

St John Ogilvie High School participated in a successful Netball event with fellow secondary schools, including Strathaven Academy and Lesmahagow High School, featuring S1 pupils. The excitement at the Alistair McCoist Sports Centre highlighted the impressive performances and teamwork, with special recognition for the MVPs. Congratulations to all participants!

Arrested and Charged

A 53-year-old man was arrested for threatening the Blantyre Health Centre after a suspicious item was found on the premises, leading to evacuations on April 23, 2026. Nearby schools, Calderside Academy and Auchinraith Primary, were also affected, raising concerns among parents and carers. The man will appear in court later.

Attempted Break ins

An alert has been issued for the Blantyre area due to recent attempted and actual break-ins. Following an incident at Broompark Road, a resident reported a suspicious man near her window around 3am. Police discovered multiple homes targeted. Residents are urged to secure their properties and report any suspicious activity.

Bin Collections Update

South Lanarkshire Council has reported unexpected delays in refuse collections across Hamilton, Cambuslang, Rutherglen, and East Kilbride, resulting in bins running up to a day late. Residents are advised to leave their bins at the kerbside for collection as crews work to catch up.

Remembering Daniel Hampsey

Daniel Hampsey, a Blantyre native who later lived in Burnbank, passed away on Sunday, April 26th. He was known affectionately as Dane and remembered by many from the Smiddy Pub. Funeral arrangements are pending, and our condolences go out to Daniel’s family during this difficult time.
