Bring Back Blantyre’s Festive Switch on: Join the Movement!

On November 24, 2025, Blantyre marks six years without its Christmas lights switch-on due to Covid’s impact and the closure of the Blantyre Community Committee. Despite the ongoing community interest, no formal efforts revived the tradition. There are hopes for a new community-led group to restore this cherished event in 2026.

From November 27th to 30th, the Blantyre area hosts several Christmas fayres. Events include High Blantyre Primary’s fayre on Thursday, St Joseph’s on Friday, Blantyre Old Parish Church on Saturday, and two fayres on Sunday at The Parkville and Holy Jumpers’. Enjoy festive activities, support local causes, and experience community spirit.

High Blantyre Primary Christmas Fayre

High Blantyre Primary School is hosting a family-friendly Christmas celebration on Thursday, November 27th, from 6pm to 8pm. The event features Santa’s Grotto, craft stalls, games, tombolas, and refreshments. Entry is free, making it a perfect opportunity to support the school and enjoy the festive season with family and friends.

Glorious Weekend of Boxing

Local boxers from Priestfield Boxing Club had a remarkable weekend. Brandon Grant triumphed against Chris Liddell in a thrilling professional match, winning all rounds. Ben McGoldrick became the Western District Champion after a competitive fight against Tristan Phibey, winning by a close 3/2 decision. Both boxers received praise for their performances.

Champ! Well done Callum Bell

Callum Bell from Blantyre has won the Western District light heavyweight title for the fourth time while boxing for The Unit ABC in Lesmahagow. Additionally, he received the Rab Bannan memorial award for best youth boxer. The club is proud of his achievements as he prepares for senior competitions in January.

Appeal for Information after Vics Fire

This weekend, vandals set fire to the Blantyre Victoria Football Club’s supporters stand, causing significant damage to the Container seatings. The club plans to involve police to identify the culprits. This incident follows reports of youths starting fires in nearby public spaces, raising concerns about reckless behavior in the community.
