On Sunday, April 26th, Castle Park hosted the KPop Universe Tribute band, captivating a diverse audience with performances of popular K-Pop songs. The event, organized by Tribute Act Entertainment, drew large crowds and further solidified the band’s reputation for selling out venues across the UK and Europe. Local man Ronnie Stokes passed away on April 20, 2026. His funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, May 1, at 10 am at St Joseph’s RC Church in Blantyre, with a reception into the church on Thursday, April 30, at 5:30 pm. The community expresses condolences to his family.
The former ‘First Direct’ building in Blantyre, once the largest in the area, has been demolished after nearly 30 years. This site, previously the HSBC call center, became surplus following staff relocation and is now being prepared for future redevelopment. Community input is encouraged regarding potential new uses for the space.

On April 25th, 57 volunteers united to clean Strathclyde Park, collecting 150 bags of litter. Contributors included various local organizations and community groups, ensuring the park is pristine for summer enjoyment. Over 6,000 attendees kicked off the Glasgow Kiltwalk 2026, walking from Clydebank to Balloch to support charity. With participants primarily from Blantyre, the event continues today, April 26th. Councillor Lesley McDonald has passed away after a short illness. Serving in Ward 20 since 2007 and as Chair of the Finance and Corporate Resources Committee, she was respected and well-liked. Known for her dedication, passion for Robert Burns, and support of Scottish rugby, she will be greatly missed. Flags have been lowered in her honor.
